2006 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser in a system on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start condenser replacement by using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to remove refrigerant from the a/c system. Integration between condenser and receiver dehydrator makes their independent servicing impossible. Start by removing the upper radiator support then detach the a/c compressor hose assembly from the A/C Condenser fitting while removing its bolt for hose assembly. Immediately cap or tape open a/c components to avoid contamination. Tear out the a/c compressor hose assembly seal washer before moving on to the cap or tape hose assembly. Start by lifting and supporting the vehicle prior to removing the front evaporator inlet line bolt from the A/C Condenser assembly to disconnect the line. Toss away the seal washer and apply a fitting cap or tape to the exposed line. Reduce the vehicle height and pull out the upper pins from both lh and rh radiator air baffles. To gain extra clearance the air baffle needs tilting forward before lifting the A/C Condenser along the radiator until the condenser tabs slip out of their slots for condenser extraction from the vehicle. When changing your condenser you must add the exact amount of specified pag oil directly to it. Add the new A/C Condenser into position then drop it to position condenser tabs within radiator slots before extracting retainer pins a second time. After vehicle support you should remove front evaporator inlet line cap or tape then install a new seal washer to connect the line with the A/C Condenser using a bolt torque of 16 n.m (12 lb ft). To install the front evaporator inlet line users must remove end caps from the a/c compressor hose assembly then insert a new seal washer and secure the hose to the A/C Condenser by torquing the bolt to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Install the upper radiator support and then vacate and recharge the a/c system before testing fittings with the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
