2006 Chevrolet Corvette Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear A/C hose in an evaporator system on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Replacing the rear evaporator tube demands the removal of all refrigerant from the a/c system first and battery and Intake Manifold extraction. Disconnect the front evaporator inlet line by removing its body retaining clip and its refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector and its a/c tube connectors from the evaporator rear line assembly. Use caps or tape to secure open a/c parts from contamination before discarding the o-rings. Remove the o-rings from the a/c compressor while disconnecting it from the evaporator rear line assembly. Cap or tape both ends of the front evaporator line and a/c compressor line for protection. Remove three components to separate the evaporator rear line assembly from the vehicle by taking off the heater pipe bracket retaining nut from the cowl stud and the thermal expansion valve (TXV) block fitting nut before disconnecting the evaporator rear line assembly from the txv and the retainer bracket stud for final assembly removal. To replace the evaporator rear line assembly add polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil to the specified amount directly to the assembly. Put seal washers on the evaporator rear line assembly and put it back into position by connecting it to the retainer bracket stud and the txv. Tighten the txv block fitting nut to 20 n.m (15 lb ft) while the heater pipe bracket retaining nut requires a torque of 10 n.m (7 lb ft). First remove coverings from both the front evaporator line and a/c compressor line then install fresh o-rings to the rear evaporator line assembly before uniting the a/c compressor line and front evaporator line to this assembly. Reconnect the refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector with a/c tube connectors while also reattaching the front evaporator inlet line to the body retaining clip. Install the Intake Manifold and the battery. The final step involves evacuating and recharging the a/c system while conducting a leak test on fittings through the use of the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
