- Q: How to replace the lower control arm on 2006 Chevrolet Corvette?A: The first step for lower Control Arm replacement starts by elevating and sustaining the vehicle before removing the wheel and tire assembly. Remove the front transverse spring using the transverse spring remover tool (J 33432-A). Disconnect both electrical connectors first from the Wheel Speed Sensor and second from the shock's electronic suspension control (ESC) component if present. Begin by taking away both the shock absorber from the lower Control Arm as well as the stabilizer shaft link from the same lower Control Arm. Separate the lower ball joint stud from the Steering Knuckle by using the ball joint separator (J 42188) after you loosen but do not remove the ball joint stud nut. Succeeding ball joint separator (J 42188) removal with the ball joint stud nut you can pull out the ball joint stud from the Steering Knuckle. First mark the cam bolt positions before taking out the cam bolts and their washers together with the Control Arm crossmember nut for removal of the lower Control Arm. Install lower Control Arm into vehicle position and put cam bolts first followed by washers and nuts but maintain all cam bolt positions according to original disassembly markings. The cam bolts require tight installation but their torque specifications are omitted because the system needs wheel alignment adjustments. After placing the lower Control Arm on a jackstand supporters install the lower ball joint stud onto the Steering Knuckle and finally secure it by tightening the ball joint stud nut to 30 nm (20 ft. Lbs.) while turning the nut for 180 degrees. If nut spinning occurs during installation use an allen wrench as needed. The stabilizer shaft link goes onto the lower Control Arm where technicians should tighten the stabilizer shaft link nut to 72 nm (53 ft. Lbs.). Place the front transverse spring back and uninstall the spring compressor tool (J 33432-A). Secure the shock absorber to the lower Control Arm with 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs.) of torque before reconnecting esc electrical connectors to shock and sensor. The maintenance procedure ends with jackstand removal followed by tire and wheel assembly reinstallation and vehicle lowering and a front wheel alignment procedure before torquing lower Control Arm cam bolt nuts to 170 nm (125 ft. Lbs.).
