2007 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Clutch assembly on 2007 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: Obtain the needed tools before beginning compressor clutch assembly replacement. These tools include The tool set for this process includes J 25031-A (Three Jaw Puller), J 37872 (Universal Spanner Wrench), GE-47849 (Clutch Remover), GE-47850 (Center Puller), and GE-47851 (Armature Replacer). J 25031-A (Three Jaw Puller), J 37872 (Universal Spanner Wrench), GE-47849 (Clutch Remover), GE-47850 (Center Puller), and GE-47851 (Armature Replacer). Start by removing the compressor from the vehicle then employ J 37872 to secure the compressor clutch. You need a GE-47849 frame to remove the compressor clutch from the compressor after first removing the bolt that holds the clutch to the compressor. First remove compressor clutch shims from the compressor shaft followed by the snap ring from the compressor pulley. GE-47850 accompanied by J 25031-A helps you eliminate the compressor pulley before you remove the clutch field coil connector bracket screw and clutch field coil screws from the compressor to detach the clutch field coil. Clean both the clutch field coil and the compressor pulley mounting surfaces before installing the clutch field coil onto the compressor using screws tightened to 4.9 N.m (43 lb in). Screw the clutch field coil connector bracket securely into place at 4.3 N.m (38 lb in). Follow GE-47851 protocol to mount the compressor pulley with the snap ring placed as its rounded edge points upward before you install the snap ring and compressor clutch shims onto the compressor shaft. Install the compressor clutch followed by securing it with GE-47851. The feeler gauge should measure 0.3 to 0.6 mm (0.012 to 0.024 in) clearance between the compressor pulley and the compressor clutch. Use GE-47851 to install the new clutch bolt and apply a torque of 21 N.m (16 lb ft) at the same time you apply J 37872 to hold the compressor clutch in position. Check that the compressor pulley turns without resistance before you install the compressor unit to your vehicle.
