- Q: How to replace the left side engine mount bracket on a rear-wheel drive on 2008 Cadillac STS?A: The first step to replace the left side Engine Mount bracket for rear-wheel drive vehicles requires securing the steering wheel through utilization of a strap for stability purposes while the Steering Column remains locked to prevent sir system injuries. The replacement procedure requires disconnected Steering Column elements, intermediate shaft components and steering gear systems while holding static the front tires and wheels for accurate alignment purposes. After removing the tower brace you should reinstall the safe steering wheel restraint. The engine technician must disconnect the steering intermediate shaft lower section followed by loosening the left and right lower Engine Mount nuts. You can install two screw jacks to perform frame work according to instructions where one will have a block of wood under the Oil Pan as support. Loosen bolts from the frame rear and center mounting points before lowering the rear part of the frame by 12.7 mm (0.5 in.) to 25.4 mm (1 in.) while gradually loosening the front frame bolts. The procedure starts by removing Engine Mount bracket bolts which permits the Engine Mount and Engine Mount bracket assembly removal, alongside the removal of the slotted washer found between the frame and Engine Mount. Trace an Engine Mount position onto the Engine Mount bracket before breaking the upper Engine Mount retaining nut to split the Engine Mount from the Engine Mount bracket. The Engine Mount bracket should be placed onto the Engine Mount while matching the location mark on the Engine Mount with its corresponding mark on the Engine Mount bracket. The upper Engine Mount retaining nut should be installed before finally tightening it to 80 n.m (59 lb ft). First reinstall the Engine Mount bracket combined with the Engine Mount then secure the Engine Mount bracket bolts with a torque of 60 n.m (44 lb ft) while ensuring the slotted washer remains correctly lined up. Securely mount the frame rear and center mounting bolts first before tightening them to 191 n.m (141 lb ft) in sequence with the left and right front frame bolts and center and rear front frame bolts that receive the same torque value. Once you remove the screw jack from behind the front frame and the block under the Oil Pan install the left and right Engine Mount nuts with a tight torque of 80 n.m (59 lb ft). Reinstall the lower section of the steering intermediate shaft while unsecuring the steering wheel then add final installation of the tower brace.
