• Q: How to replace the brake master cylinder on 2009 Cadillac CTS?

  A: Before you begin replacing the Brake Master Cylinder verify that the engine is switched off and exhaust the power vacuum Brake Booster vacuum reserve by performing repetitive Brake Pedal operation until pedal firmness develops. Disengage the brake fluid indicator switch electrical connection and unscrew the push nut that connects the master cylinder to its mounting stud. Next remove the pressure relief bracket from the air inlet panel support bracket. When you expose the air inlet panel support bracket you need to pull it outward before rotating it off to the side. You must disconnect the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting then apply a cap on it and use a plug to block the master cylinder outlet port to stop brake fluid loss and contamination. Follow up with tightening the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting to 36 nm (27 lb ft) and then torque the primary brake pipe fitting to the same value. Follow these steps to reconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch electrical connector: install the support bracket to the master cylinder mounting stud before applying the push nut.
