How to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) in a Getrag 5 Speed manual transmission on 2009 Chevrolet HHR?

Take off the vss electrical connector first, then unbolt and remove the retainer. Lift the vss from the transaxle to take it off, then take out the o-ring. When you are installing, lubricate a new o-ring using dexron iii and put it in, then install the vss and the retainer. Make sure you put the vss retainer bolt in place and tighten it to 12 nm (8 lb ft). Lastly, plug in the vss connector and drive the car down from the jack.
