Vehicle Speed Sensor

Start by removing the left front wheel to reach the front Wheel Speed Sensor. Pull off vss electrical connector first then remove its retaining bolt for removing the sensor while keeping the vss. Discard the old o-ring. Before adding the new o-ring apply transmission fluid to its surface then put it in position. After this install the vss assembly according to the specified fastener instructions. Tighten the vss retainer bolt to 9 n.m (80 lb in). After that, attach the vss connector to the vss terminal and reinstall the left front wheel.

The replacement procedure for the Vehicle Speed Sensor of the 4t45-e automatic transaxle starts with disconnecting the negative Battery Cable from its terminal. Raise and support the vehicle. Begin by removing the electrical connector from the Vehicle Speed Sensor and succeeding with extracting the retaining stud and sensor through straight pull-out movement to safeguard the case. Place the cleaned and dried Vehicle Speed Sensor into position alongside its retaining bolt then torque the stud to 12 n.m (97 lb in) for proper engagement. After reconnecting the speed sensor to its electrical connector you should remove safety stands before lowering the vehicle. To complete the procedure you should reconnect and tighten the terminal bolt of your negative Battery Cable to 15 n.m (11 lb ft).

Remove the brake rotor to access the other side of the knuckle and use a blunt punch (or equivalent tool) to push the sensor from the outboard side.

Take out the retaining stud and pull the sensor straight out to avoid damaging the tire case.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery negative terminal.

Lower the vehicle and adjust the transmission oil level as needed.

Inspect the removed sensor and the steering knuckle to ensure the sensor's locating pin has not broken off in the knuckle.

Place the front wheel speed sensor into the steering knuckle, install the retaining bolt, and tighten it to 12 Nm (107 inch lbs.).

Clean and dry the vehicle speed sensor.

Reconnect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector, lower the vehicle, and perform the Diagnostic System Check - ABS.

Reconnect the front wheel speed sensor electrical connector, lower the vehicle, and perform the A Diagnostic System Check - ABS.

Reconnect the VSS connector before lowering the vehicle.

Raise and support the vehicle, then remove the electrical connector at the vehicle speed sensor.

Remove the electrical connector from the vehicle speed sensor.

Secure it with the VSS retainer bolt, tightening it to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

First, remove the left front wheel.

Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery negative terminal.

Connect the VSS connector to the VSS.

Place the front wheel speed sensor into the steering knuckle, install the retaining bolt, and tighten it to 12 Nm (107 inch lbs.).

Reconnect the VSS connector to the VSS and reinstall the left front wheel.

Reconnect the VSS connector and reinstall the left front wheel.

Reconnect the electrical connector at the sensor.
