Begin by removing the pinion shaft locking bolt after stripping off the rear axle housing cover with its gasket. Axle replacement requires pinion shaft removal for systems without locking differentials. Before turning the case, those with locking differentials should partially remove the shaft and position the pinion until it touches housing walls. A screwdriver serves to rotate the c-lock while you align its position with the thrust block. Once aligned push the flange of the Axle Shaft toward the Differential and remove the c-lock from the button end of the Axle Shaft. Maintain the Axle Shaft in its correct position to prevent gear misalignment. Slide the new Axle Shaft into the rear axle housing while making sure it fits correctly against the Differential side gear by its splines. When working with axles lacking a locking Differential, install the c-lock component on the button side of the shaft.
