Steering Column Anti-Rotation Pin) and j 24319-b (Steering Linkage & Tie Rod Puller). First start by ensuring the wheels are straight ahead and the Steering Column is in the lock position for that is to avoid damages to the coil assembly. Mount the j 42640 into the access hole in the low Steering Column trim cover to secure the Steering Column. Lift and raise the vehicle, thereafter, take out the tires and wheels. Next, take off the outer tie rods ends retaining nuts and use the j 24319-b to separate the outer tie rod ends from the
Steering Knuckles. Remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt upper and disconnect the intermediate shaft from the power Rack And Pinion. Take off the power Rack And Pinion heat shield and the rear transmission mount upper mounting nuts. If equipped do not disconnect the variable effort steering electrical connector and drain pan under the vehicle. Take off the power steering pressure and return pipes, then remove the mounting bolts of the power Rack And Pinion. Jack up the rear part of the engine frame and unscrew the rear mounting bolts of the engine frame and ensure that its properly supported before lowering it to get access the Rack And Pinion. Take off the power Rack And Pinion from the right side of the vehicle. For installation, insert the power Rack And Pinion back into the vehicle and lift the rear side of the engine frame. Mount the rear engine frame with bolts and tighten to 192atest (142 f.t lbs.), and the trans mount upper mount nuts to 75 atest (55 f.t lbs). Mount and tighten the power Rack And Pinion mounting bolts to the specification 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs) and hook up the power steering pressure return lines, tightening them to 27 nm (20 ft. Lbs.). Take off the drain pan, reconnect the variable effort steering electrical connector, and replace the power Rack And Pinion heat shield. Attach the outer tie rod ends back to the steering knuckles and lock them in place with retaining nuts tightened at 47nm (35ft. Lbs.). Mount the intermediate shaft on to the power Rack And Pinion and tighten the pinch bolt to 45 nm (33 ft. Lbs.). Replace the tires and wheels, loosen the vehicle, pull out the j 42640 from the Steering Column, drain the power steering system, and correct the front toe if necessary.
