How to replace the primary cam gear and timing chain on Cadillac STS?

To replace the timing chain and sprockets firstly remove the Oil Pump. Rest the timing marks, with the help of the crankshaft socket (J 39946). Then, remove the secondary chains that drive the camshaft, followed by the primary drive chain tensioner and then the oil outlet tube. Retain the timing chain guide and guide bolts, as well as the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt. Remove the timing chain along with crankshaft sprocket and camshaft intermediate sprocket in an assembly. Clean and inspect the camshaft timing supply components. For installation, ensure that the timer marks of the camshaft intermediate and crankshaft sprockets are aligned vertically. Mount the main timing chain onto the drive sprockets, and with the help of the crankshaft socket (J 39946), rotate the crankshaft until the crankshaft keyway is at the 1 o'clock position. Mount the main timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and camshaft intermediate sprocket as a set. Install the camshaft intermediate sprocket retaining bolt and tighten it to 60 nm (44 ft. Lbs.). Fit the main drive chain guide and secure with the guide bolts at 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Mount the primary drive chain tensioner, then the oil outlet tube and bolts, tighten oil outlet tube bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Lastly, fit the secondary camshaft drive chains on, remove the pin from the timing chain tensioner release lever, make sure that the primary timing marks are aligned vertically, re-fit the Oil Pump.

Mount the primary drive chain tensioner, then the oil outlet tube and bolts, tighten oil outlet tube bolts at 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Lastly, fit the secondary camshaft drive chains on, remove the pin from the timing chain tensioner release lever, make sure that the primary timing marks are aligned vertically, re-fit the Oil Pump.
