The first step towards replacing the drum Brake Backing Plate involves lifting the vehicle up and supporting it. Seize off the brake shoe elements, inclusive of the total park brake with the retainer, and after, pull off the nuts joining the wheel place mount to the back plate. Disconnect the Brake Line and plug the end of the section of the line to avoid loss of fluid or contamination, then remove the Wheel Cylinder assembly and the Wheel Hub assembly. In case it is equipped with an antilock brake system (ABS), unplug the cable that connects the gasket to the Wheel Speed Sensor, and remove the backing plate from the gasket. For installation, install the backingplate (new gasket) with the abshub correctly placed onto the Wheel Hub. Mount the entire Wheel Hub/backing assembly back into the rear axle plate, attach the nuts and reconnect the Wheel Speed Sensor if necessary and tightening the brake Wheel Hub/backing plate-to-rear axle to 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs). Then install the brake Wheel Cylinder assembly to the backing plate and then join the Brake Line tightening it to 16 nm (12 ft. Lbs.). Refit the brake parts and attach the parking brake with the retainer to the brake shoe lever. Finally, bleed brakes and lower the car.
