Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the rear axle wheel bearing and wheel seal on Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: The process starts by lifting up the vehicle while also providing support before removing both tire and wheel components. Moving forward with your repair you need to eliminate the axle housing cover from the rear end before axel shaft extrusion. Use the j 44685 - rear axle seal and bearing remover with j 2619-01 - slide hammer to remove rear Axle Shaft seals when dealing with vehicles that have vses systems. When removing the rear Axle Shaft seal and bearing with wheel speed sensor reluctor ring use the j 44685 - rear axle seal and bearing remover coupled with the j 2619-01 - slide hammer unless the j 45857 - vses wheel bearing remover with j 2619-01 - slide hammer is needed for additional component removal. Fitting the rear wheel speed sensor reluctor ring is recommended only if your vehicle configuration allows it while making sure the Axle Shaft bearing fits properly into the rear Axle Shaft housing. Install the Axle Shaft bearing first with the j 23690 - axle bearing installer and j 8092 - universal driver handle and then use the j 21128 - axle pinion oil seal installer to install the Axle Shaft seal until it rests flush against the tube. Attach the rear Axle Shaft first then install the rear axle housing cover and finally position the wheel and tire assembly. Complete the filling process of appropriate differential oil into the rear axle before lowering the vehicle.
