To replace the Starter motor on 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines, the negative
Battery Cable has to be disconnected, and the vehicle has to be raised in a secure location. Take out the right transmission cover bolt and the Starter bolts off, and disconnected the oil level sensor electrical connector. Advance the Starter and winch it clear of the transmission and remove Starter solenoid nut, lead from solenoid stud and positive cable from Starter stud. Set the Starter down on a workbench and unsnap the transmission cover from the Starter. If required, place the Starter shield, snap the transmission cover back to the Starter, and connect the positive cable to the Starter stud. Mount the Starter lead nut and screw it up to 10 n.m (89 lb in), followed by connecting the Starter solenoid lead to the solenoid stud and securing it with a solenoid nut tightening it up to 3.4 n.m (30 lb in). Starter rearward slide and tighten Starter bolts to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Reconnect oil level sensor electrical connector - install the right transmission cover bolt, tighten to 9 n.m (80 lb in). Finally, lower the vehicle and clamp the negative Battery Cable.
