    Q:
How to replace the shift cable for the range selector lever on Cadillac Escalade ESV? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the replacement of the Shift Cable by first positioning the Steering Column shift lever in the park position and then removing the instrument panel knee bolster. The driver seat must be removed before pulling back carpet together with insulation found in the driver compartment space. Unfasten the cable retainer from the column and detach its endpoint from the ball stud while tucking down the cable tangs to slip the cable out of the Steering Column bracket. Do this carefully to prevent accidental bending of the Shift Cable. Remove the cable from its mount on the support while you also remove the floor panel cable grommet. Lift the vehicle before removing clips from the cable attached to floor panel reinforcement while placing the transmission manual shaft in mechanical park position and taking off the Transfer Case clip if present. First disconnect the Shift Cable from its ball stud mount on the transmission range selector lever before using the retainer to remove it from the bracket and releasing the cable from the bracket using the tangs. Start by installing the transmission Shift Cable to the vehicle with the transmission manual shaft lever set at mechanical park. Install the bracketed Shift Cable while using the retainer to secure it before connecting its end to the transmission range selector lever ball stud. The cable clip should be installed on the Transfer Case followed by clips on the cable attached to the floor panel reinforcement. Lower the car and keep the steering lever in park position while installing the floor grommet opposite any excessive cable bending or twisting. Represent the Shift Cable to its support and Steering Column bracket while making sure that tangs become fully engaged. Use the cable end to connect the ball stud on the Steering Column before securing it with the provided retainer. Test the transmission for proper shift operation after repositioning the carpet and insulation around the driver area and reinstalling the driver seat with the instrument panel knee bolster. Check and adjust the cable when it is impossible to reach all gear positions.
