Begin by switching off all vehicle lamps and accessories and subsequently turning off the ignition before you remove the battery negative cable. Follow this procedure: first disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt from the battery and then disconnect the ground cable and bolt from the auxiliary battery. Clean the battery terminal bolt flange and Battery Cable end thoroughly before installing the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt to the battery unit by tightening the terminal bolt to 17 n.m (13 lb ft). Similar cleaning procedures should be followed for the auxiliary battery installation with terminal bolt torques matching the battery installation.
