    Q:
How to replace the left side catalytic converter on Cadillac CTS? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to replace a left side Catalytic Converter requires complete removal of the left bank Exhaust Manifold heat shield. Start by removing the nuts securing the Catalytic Converter then raise the vehicle for support while working. Disconnect both left and right side Catalytic Converter electrical oxygen sensors while removing the muffler pipe connections. By removing Exhaust Pipe to right bank Catalytic Converter nuts the technician can extract the Catalytic Converter while removing both its seal/heat shield and Oxygen Sensor from the Exhaust Manifold. Remove the Oxygen Sensor from its position on the Catalytic Converter. Begin with sensor attachment to the Catalytic Converter where inspection and replacement of any damaged wear on the seal/heat shield should occur first. Secure the Catalytic Converter by installing its seal/heat shield onto the converter body before putting the converter back on the Exhaust Manifold and tightening the converter nuts. After reconnecting the Oxygen Sensor electrical connector technicians should examine Catalytic Converter seals and replace them if the condition requires it. Mount the Exhaust Pipe with nuts onto both left-side and right-side catalytic converters while using a torque wrench set to 22 n.m (16 lb ft). The technician put the vehicle in its lowered position before applying 50 n.m (37 lb ft) torque when securing the catalytic convertermetrical nuts. As a concluding step install the right bank Exhaust Manifold heat shield.
