    Q:
How to replace the brake backing plate on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process of replacing the Brake Backing Plate involves a vehicle being raised and suitably supported after which a tire and wheel assembly is removed, brake drum, and brake shoes removed. Next, you pull out universal spring and Wheel Cylinder, remove Parking Brake Cable from backing plate and Wheel Hub, and pull out rear Wheel Hub before finally taking out the backing plate. For installation remember to put the new backing plate first then the rear Wheel Hub and then reconnect Parking Brake Cable to the backing plate. Go on and install Wheel Cylinder, followed by universal spring, and brake shoes. Adjust the drum brakes, reinstall the Brake Drum, bleed the brake hydraulic system, and adjust the parking brake only to reinstall the tire and wheel assembly while lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before starting to work on the Brake Backing Plate you need to raise and secure your vehicle and also take out its rear tires. Start by loosening the park brake system pressure from the equalizer before proceeding with the caliper bracket and rear rotor removal. Pry off the rear park brake cable from its bracket at the wheel area and disconnect the park brake cable return spring from its bracket at the rear wheel and brake actuator. You must take off the complete rear hub unit which has the backing plate park brake cable bracket and park brake actuator.also preclude installing the same assembly. Take out both retainers and the park brake cable bracket from the park brake actuator before putting the rear hub on the side. Remove the brake shoe assembly along with its actuator from the backing plate. Position the park brake shoe and actuator system onto the backing plate before placing it on top of the rear hub. Fix the park brake cable bracket first and its two retaining pieces before putting on the rear hub. Join the rear park brake cable back to the wheel bracket then install the park brake cable spring to the park brake parts behind the rear wheel. Attach the rear rotor and caliper holder over the rear wheels before mounting the tires. As the last step lower the vehicle while making proper adjustments to the park brake.
