Control Module

The Vehicle Identification Number must be acquired as the starting point for programming the Engine Control Module. The techline terminal allows users to choose Service Programming which contains a sequence to follow containing Tech 2 then Reprogram ECU and Off-Board Programming Adapter as the ECU location. Use the desired Off-Board Programming Adapter kit harness to join the control module with the Tech 2 and Off-Board Programming Adapter in sequence. Utilize the Service Programming Request Information function on the Tech 2 to perform module communication and obtain the access code after which exit the function. Connect the Tech 2 to the Techline terminal after detaching it from the Off-Board Programming Adapter while turning the device ON. Users should enter the vehicle's VIN into the Techline terminal until it displays an attachment to database message. The programming process requires identification of the programming type followed by selection of correct calibration files while maintaining a secure connection setup. After verifying your selection through the Techline terminal summary screen it moves directly to transfer the calibration files onto the Tech 2. After completing the download on the Tech 2 you must disable the device from the Techline terminal before moving it to the Off-Board Programming Adapter and reconnecting it for programming. Users must avoid disconnecting the Off-Board Programming Adapter during Service Programming on the Tech 2 unless the programming procedure fails or stalls. Proceed with control module programming only when the secure connections between control module and Off-Board Programming Adapter and the latest version of Techline software are verified. The replacement of the control module should be performed when programming becomes unsuccessful. The download process concludes with Program selection on the Tech 2 then exiting Service Programming to disable the Off-Board Programming Adapter.

Service and repair operations for the Engine Control Module require a full battery charge together with an on ignition state and proper connection of the techline equipment cable at the dlc. Use the current software that matches the vehicle model to program the pcm according to the most recent techline equipment user documentation. Check all pcm connections and verify the techline equipment software version when the pcm fails to program. An attempted second pcm programming will demonstrate its inability to program the system so the pcm needs replacement while the new unit requires programming. Disconnect the negative battery cable, remove the PCM from its mounting hardware, disconnect the harness connectors, and take the PCM out of the engine compartment.

Verify the displayed VIN and correct it if necessary.

Clear the DTCs using a scan tool.

Program the PCM using the latest software that matches the vehicle, following the up-to-date Techline equipment users instructions.

Reconnect the PCM connectors, carefully reinstall the PCM and harness into the PCM housing, and reattach the air cleaner housing cover assembly along with the two screws.
