    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
A driver must start by freeing the parking brake followed by lifting and supporting their vehicle. Start the repair by removing the wheel and tire followed by disassembly of the caliper with its mounting bracket. First disconnect the intermediate cable from its connector while pulling down on the front Parking Brake Cable. After that remove the park brake cable from both the lever and mounting bracket by pressing down the locking tabs. Remove the rotor and hub and bearing assembly first before proceeding to detach the Parking Brake Shoe and backing plate bolts for backing plate removal. For installation, place the new backing plate and ensure to clean the threads of the bolts with brake parts cleaner, apply threadlock gm p/n 12345493 or red loctite (TM) #272 to the threads, and tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 nm (100 ft. Lbs.). After placement reinstall the Parking Brake Shoe followed by appropriate adjustments. Follow hub and bearing assembly installation with the rotor. After attaching the park brake cables to their brackets and lever, proceed to linking the intermediate cable with the front Parking Brake Cable. Reinstall the caliper together with mounting bracket and install the tire and wheel assembly followed by removing safety stands before lowering the vehicle.

    Q:
How to replace the rear disc brake backing plate (J55) on Cadillac DeVille? Posted by Customer
    A:
The rear disc Brake Backing Plate j55 requires replacement which starts with releasing the park brake and raising and supporting the vehicle. Begin by taking off the wheel with tire followed by separating the brake caliper from its mounting bracket as one unit. Pulling the front park brake cable downward releases the intermediate cable from its connector after which you can remove the park brake cable from the brake caliper lever while pressing the locking tabs on the mounting bracket. After removing the brake rotor and hub and bearing assembly you should remove the park brake shoe before taking out the backing plate bolts for backing plate removal. Before installation insert the new backing plate and remove any residues of past adhesive. Clean the backing plate bolt threads with brake parts cleaner until they are completely dry before putting loctite(R) dri-loc 201 (GM P/N 12345493) adhesive on the mounting bolt male thread length. Screw the backing plate bolts and tighten them to 135 nm until they reach 100 foot pounds torque. Follow shoe adjustment method before putting the hub assembly and bearing inside. Finish the installation by installing the brake rotor. The park brake cable requires mounting to the bracket until the locking tabs click into position before securing it to the brake caliper lever. Finally attach the caliper mounting bracket assembly together with the tire and wheel assembly while lowering the vehicle into position.
