Start your work on the rear brake caliper by taking it off from the vehicle. Stay safe by keeping your fingers away from the caliper Piston area before applying compressed air because strong expulsion of pistons could harm you. Place clean cloths in the housing before the caliper Piston removal step and inject just enough compressed air to push the pistons smoothly toward the open end of the bores and avoid hurting them. Push the Piston out safely by directing compressed air into the inlet hole and watching it exit from the boot. Replace the Piston whenever its material shows signs of wear, scratches, nicks, rust, or chrome wear. Use a guard during caliper boot removal to protect the bore from scratching and apply a small tool made of wood or plastic to take the Piston seal out of its location in the caliper bore. Look for scrape marks and damage on the caliper bore and seal channels before using a crocus cloth to cleanse minor rust. When corrosion problems persist you must replace the caliper housing entirely. Replace all bolt boots that show damage through cuts or tears as well as signs of deterioration. Replace completely corroded caliper bolts instead of trying to clean them because the damages cannot be repaired. Replace the entire caliper due to damaged seal groove area in the caliper bore. Take off the bleeder valve cap and valve assembly from the caliper housing before you clean them with denatured alcohol and blow all passages with filtered nonlubed compressed air. The j 36349 front dust boot seal installer helps you attach the bleeder valve and cap to the caliper housing by tightening the bleeder valve to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.). Put clean brake fluid on the Piston seal and place the new seal into the caliper bore slots without twisting it. Apply brake fluid to both parts first then put the boot and Piston into the caliper bore until the Piston reaches the bottom. Finish the installation by placing the caliper boot into the housing groove with the j 36349 equipment.
