How to replace the rear door hinge on 2003 GMC Savana 2500?

The first step when replacing the rear door hinge is to separate the door from its vehicle position. The first step requires removing all sealer from around the hinge area before marking down the current hinge positions on both body pillar and door. Drill a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole completely through the spot welds at each of the marks you made on the hinge base centers. Drill a 13 mm (1/2 in) hole through the hinge base along with the body pillar or door by using the smaller hole as the orientation guide. Next follow up the welds with a chisel to unfasten the hinge from both parts before extracting them. Before installation you must deburr all inner holes of the hinge pillar and door to achieve proper hinge and backing plate seating while verifying that the hinge area remains flat. Apply paint to both sides of the hinge pillar or door where mounting happens before applying medium-bodied sealer to the hinge body surface. Position the bolt-on service replacement hinges directly on the scribe marks from removal before installing them to body pillar or door through use of supplied bolts and tapping plates. Use the recommended torque of 5 N.m (44 lb in) to fasten the bolts before installing the door to the body by performing necessary alignment. Check that the locking mechanism engages properly with the striker before completely closing the door and tighten bolts to reach 25 N.m (18 lb ft). The last step includes using sealer to cover the hinges before painting the entire assembly before reattaching the door to the vehicle.
