Q: How to Replace the Rear (Jounce) Brake Line on 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
A: Start by raising and supporting the vehicle before cleaning all dust and debris from both brake hose and pipe connectors. Embed rubber seals in the opening of brake pipe fittings to stop brake fluid from leaking and getting dirty. Insert a back up wrench to take apart both brake pipe and hose connections. When done block or plug the pipe fitting to protect from leaked fluids. Pull out the jounce hose from the bracket after removing the brake hose retaining clip from the hose mounting bracket. When disconnected insert rubber caps to seal the exposed brake port ends before disconnecting the rear brake pipes from the junction block on the axle. Take out the brake hose from the vehicle after removing the junction block retaining bolt from the axle. Begin by installing the brake hose to its correct location before fixing the axle junction block bolt with 22 nm of torque. Attach the rear brake pipes to the junction block on the axle by connecting them securely at 25 nm torque. Installing the hose requires keeping it straight with no contact to suspension parts before placing it in the bracket. Install the jounce hose clip as you attach the brake hose fitting to the brake pipe end exposed at its opening. Twist a back up wrench onto the hose nut to connect both pieces using the proper tightening torque of 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Check that the hose stays away from suspension parts at all times. Install new hose sections when necessary. End the process by draining the hydraulic brake system then lowering the vehicle.
