2006 Cadillac STS Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on 2006 Cadillac STS?
A: Starting the vacuum Brake Booster replacement process requires removal of the left closeout-insulator panel. Begin by removing both the Brake Booster push rod retaining clip and vacuum Brake Booster push rod from the brake pedal. Following the procedure remove the cross vehicle brace and detach the master cylinder from the vacuum Brake Booster before setting it aside intact. Access the vacuum Brake Booster locking tab by removing the air inlet grille panel while leaving the surge tank inlet hose connected so the coolant remains intact. Position the hose away without draining any fluid. Put away the coolant surge tank bolts then set the tank aside before you reconnect the surge tank inlet hose to maintain coolant containment. The j22805-b (J22805-B) should replace the vacuum Brake Booster check valve and its installation should use the master cylinder mounting nuts. Turn the booster counterclockwise using a j22805-b ratchet tool while depressing the locking tab with a flat-bladed tool for cowl front vacuum Brake Booster release. First detach the vacuum Brake Booster from its cowl mounting flange before supporting it securely while using the foam filter to reach and remove the retaining clip. You need to lift the retaining clip's longer leg upward and twist it out to remove the Pushrod from the vacuum Brake Booster. The booster must be installed with intact internal components and smooth locking flanges. Although the previous vacuum Brake Booster locking tab straightening is optional it should be performed before installing the push rod through the dust boot on the cowl. Position the vacuum Brake Booster onto the Pushrod while continuously checking the long retaining clip leg seates into its machined groove. Rotating the vacuum Brake Booster in a counterclockwise direction allows proper engagement of the locking flanges, after which the tool j22805-b must be used for clockwise rotation without a flat-bladed tool. Before removing the j22805-b users must verify that both locking tab and flanges have fully engaged. Reinstall the vacuum hose and check valve assembly before removing the surge tank inlet hose to install the coolant surge tank and surge tank inlet hose. Reinstall the air inlet grille panel followed by master cylinder and vacuum Brake Booster then cross vehicle brace if present together with vacuum Brake Booster Pushrod to its seat on the brake pedal and vacuum Brake Booster push rod retaining clip to the brake pedal and finish with the left closeout-insulator panel.
