The first step to replace Knock Sensor 1 requires draining the cooling system because engine coolant at high temperatures can lead to severe burns while some coolant remains in engine water jacket after drain. Remove the knock sensor by disconnecting its engine harness electrical connector. Apply no thread sealant to the knock sensor threads because the sensor comes with factory coating which would be disrupted by excess sealant preventing proper detonation detection. The sensor needs to be tightened to 18 N.m (13 lb ft) torque. Reconnect the engine harness electrical connector to the knock sensor before filling up the cooling system.
