- Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on 2007 Cadillac STS?A: The coil spring replacement requires a vehicle lift with vehicle support. You must take off the wheel and tire before moving forward. Remove the links connecting the automatic level control sensor and the head lamp adjustment to the upper Control Arm. The procedure starts by lifting and supporting the lower Control Arm using a suitable jack and then removal of the shock absorber lower mounting bolt. The support should be removed first before lowering the lower Control Arm. Then position a suitable jack to support the rear frame. The procedure to replace Coil Springs requires removal of frame bolts from the side of installation. Lower the frame gradually until you can remove the coil spring by leaving guide pins intact. Climb down the frame side then take out the coil spring from the vehicle. Position the new coil spring into the vehicle and utilize a framework lift to bring the structure up. Set the frame to body mounting bolts and washers before tightening the front bolts to 265 n.m (195 lb ft) and the rear bolts to 191 n.m (140 lb ft). A suitable jack will determine the right height for the lower Control Arm so the shock absorber can line up with the knuckle. Torque the shock absorber lower retaining bolt to reach 150 n.m (111 lb ft) of torque. Lower the vehicle and attach the head lamp adjustment link and automatic level control sensor link to the upper Control Arm before installing the tire and wheel.
