- Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on 2008 Cadillac STS?A: A replacement coil spring requires initial vehicle elevation with support. First disconnect the automatic level control sensor link and the head lamp adjustment link from the upper Control Arm before removing the tire and wheel. A suitable jack supports the lower Control Arm while you remove the shock absorber lower mounting bolt. Support the rear frame through a suitable jack before lowering the lower Control Arm to remove its support. Move the frame bolts from the side where coil spring replacement takes place before disassembling the frame-body mounting bolts and washers. Lower the frame framework until you can remove the coil spring while staying below guide pin limit. Following coil spring removal, install the new coil spring then lift the frame before attaching the frame to body mounting bolts and washers while tightening front bolts to 265 n.m (195 lb ft) and rear bolts to 191 n.m (140 lb ft). Push a suitable jack beneath the lower Control Arm until the shock absorber fits alongside the knuckle while keeping the vehicle elevated. Fasten the shock absorber lower retaining bolt to 150 n.m (111 lb ft) torque values. Reconnect the head lamp adjustment link and automatic level control sensor link to the upper Control Arm while installing the wheel and tire then lower the vehicle from its position.
