How to service and repair the front coil springs and shock absorber on 2008 Buick Lucerne?

Service and repair operations on suspension struts begin with a strut removal from the vehicle. Mount the strut inside the strut spring compressor (J 45400). Turn the forcing screw on the spring compressor until the coil spring moves under compressive force. To remove the upper strut mount nut place the strut rod nut socket j-35669 against the nut and apply the 45 torx(R) socket to hold the strut shaft. You can remove the strut from strut spring compressor (J 45400) to loosen the compressor forcing screw which allows removal of the upper strut mount along with the coil spring. Replace the coil spring and upper strut mount into the strut spring compressor (J 45400) before repeating spring compression. Position the strut onto the coil spring and upper strut mount followed by a loose installation of the strut retaining nut. Start by using the 45 torx(R) socket to clamp down the strut shaft while you use the strut rod nut socket (J-35669) to torque the upper strut mount nut to 75 n.m (55 lb ft). Use the strut spring compressor (J 45400) to first extract the strut before reinstalling it into the vehicle.
