2008 Cadillac SRX Camshaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the camshaft on the right side (LP1, LY7) on 2008 Cadillac SRX?
A: The right side Camshaft replacement process (LP1, LY7) requires upper and lower Intake Manifold removal before moving onto Camshaft cover and sensors. You should start by removing the Camshaft cover along with its attached sensors. The next procedure requires removal of the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid. The crankshaft balancer allows clockwise rotation only with the bolt to position the camshafts neutrally while making sure the Camshaft flats face parallel to the Camshaft cover rail. An open-end wrench should be applied at the Camshaft hex to prevent rotation during the removal of the Camshaft position actuator bolt. The en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48313) has its legs removed through unscrewing before inserting it between the Camshaft actuators with its top line adjacent to the cylinder head. Turn the handle of the en-48313 clockwise while partially expanding the legs until the feet touch the Timing Chain and link pockets without any chain slippage. After hand-tighten the en-48313 you should apply an open-end wrench to its body hex to complete securement. To achieve slack in the chain ensure the camshafts are rotated together for marking installation points between the Timing Chain and Camshaft position actuators. To begin installation remove the Camshaft position actuator bolt before taking out the Camshaft bearing caps and Camshaft. To install the components properly position the Camshaft marks with the chain and actuator marks then place the actuators onto the shafts before setting in the bearing caps and camshafts. The en-48313 should be detached but prevent rotation with an open-end wrench before implementing and tightening the Camshaft position actuators. You need to put in the intake Camshaft position actuator solenoid followed by Camshaft sensors before setting up the Camshaft cover and both parts of the Intake Manifold.
