- Q: How to replace the brake line assembly (JE5, JL9) on 2009 Cadillac STS?A: Start the brake intermediate hose replacement by lifting and securing your vehicle then taking off the right rear tire and wheel. Thoroughly wipe dirt off both parts of the brake system then unscrew the crossover brake pipe fitting from the intermediate brake hose assembly. Lock the brake pipe fitting using caps to retain fluids. Pull off the brake hose retainer at the rear frame bracket with a flat tool before disconnecting both brake pipe fittings from the brake hose assembly. Detach the brake caliper bolt by removing its fitting from the brake caliper. Pull out the brake hose from the caliper and plug the inlet port to avoid fluid leakage. To dispose of the 2 copper brake hose gaskets you should place a towel under the threaded brake hose fitting end and gently tap it onto the towel to extract them. Take off the intermediate brake hose assembly mounting nuts from their studs and remove the hose assembly. Insert the intermediate brake hose assembly securely onto mounting studs and fixed it with tightened 14 nm mounting nuts that are not twisted or folded. Uncover the caps at intermediate brake pipe connections and add intermediate brake hose ends onto fittings. Install new copper brake hose gaskets by putting them into the brake caliper inlet port. Link the brake hose to its new copper gaskets and fittings bolt. After placing the bolt fittings on the brake caliper tighten it to 50 nm (37 lb ft). Put the crossover brake hose retainer on the rear frame bracket after you take off the cap from the crossover brake pipe fitting. Secure the crossover brake pipe attachment to the intermediate brake hose system at 18 nm of torque. End by draining hydraulic brake fluid then putting the tire and wheel parts back in place before lowering the vehicle.
