  Q: How to replace the engine coolant thermostat on Cadillac DTS?

  A: Begin substituting the engine coolant Thermostat by removing the air cleaner first. Drain the cooling system after positioning the hose clamp at the Thermostat Housing. You may use the vac-n-fill or static fill arrangements for this step. The hose clamp pliers (J 38185) help redirect the radiator outlet hose clamp at the Thermostat Housing before extracting the radiator outlet hose from that location. Begin by uninstalling the Thermostat Housing bolts before extracting the Thermostat Housing, Thermostat and gasket from the water pump housing which requires discarding the previous Thermostat Housing gasket. The replacement process starts with installing the new Thermostat Housing gasket into the water pump housing before putting in the Thermostat. Receiver the Thermostat Housing after bolt installation while tightening the Thermostat Housing bolts to a torque level of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Use hose clamp pliers (J 38185) to secure the radiator outlet hose at its mounting position on the Thermostat Housing. The last step involves filling the cooling system after reinstallation of the air cleaner.
