Chevrolet SSR Crankshaft Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on Chevrolet SSR?
A: First to replace the crankshaft rear oil seal, pull the engine Flywheel, then pull off the crankshaft rear oil seal with the rear cover. Before installing the new oil seal, be sure to take off the fly wheel spacer (where applicable) and do not apply any lubricant to the oil seal inside diameter (ID) or the crank shaft surface as reinstalling the existing crank shaft rear oil seal is not allowed. Start lubricating the new oil seal's outside diameter (OD) with clean engine oil, while making sure that no oil or other lubricants touch the seal surface. Next, lubricate the rear cover oil seal bore with clean engine oil without having the crankshaft to touch it. Put the j 41479 tapered cone and bolts onto the rear of the crankshaft and then tighten up the bolts until they are tight but not all the way tight. Put the rear oil seal on the cone with a taper and direct it toward the tubular bore. Insert the j 41479 threaded rod into the tapered cone until the j 41479 threaded rod meets the tool and then align the oil seal into the tool. Turn the handle of the tool in the clock wise direction until the seal is inserted to the rear cover and bottoms into the cover bore. Lastely, pull off the j 41479 and replace the engine Flywheel.
