GMC Yukon Transfer Case Seal Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front output transfer case seal on GMC Yukon?
A: The first step to replace the front output shaft seal requires vehicle elevation followed by proper vehicle support. First remove the transfer case shield when present and proceed to strip the front propeller shaft. A two-piece internal seal comprises this front output shaft seal as the inner seal race adopts a force-fit orientation on the front output shaft. A flat-tipped screwdriver should be used first to push forward the inner seal race before a small pry bar assists in removing it from the front output shaft. A flat-tipped screwdriver or small pry bar should be placed into the area between the outer seal race lip and transfer case to pull out the remaining output shaft seal piece. Begin the installation by mounting an output shaft seal installer (J 43484) to the driver handle (J 8092). Then install a brand new seal onto the fixture. The two installation tools help in placing the seal onto the front output shaft. Install and check the fluid level of the front propeller shaft before reinstalling the transfer case shield (if equipped) then lower the vehicle into position.
