    Q:
How to replace the shift cable for the range selector lever on Chevrolet Silverado 1500? Posted by Customer
    A:
Start the replacement of the Shift Cable by positioning the steering column shift lever to park and raising the vehicle. Inspect mechanical park by examining the transmission manual shaft before you remove the clips which hold the cable to the floor panel reinforcement. The procedure starts by removing the retainer connected to the bracket and continuing with separating the cable clip on the Transfer Case (if present). Disengage the Shift Cable end from the transmission range selector lever ball stud and then use the tangs to unclip it from the bracket before lowering the vehicle while keeping the steering column shift lever in park. The second step involves taking out the driver seat while undoing the carpet and driver area insulation. First extract the instrument panel knee bolster before breaking loose the retainer holding the cable onto the steering column and then detach the cable end from the steering column ball stud. You should lower the cable from the steering column bracket after depressing the tangs to prevent unwanted cable twisting and bending. The Shift Cable should first be detached from its support structure and the cable grommet needs to be removed from the floor panel before extraction of the cable from the vehicle. Installation involves positioning the new cable into the vehicle while you should place the cable grommet onto the floor panel without causing any cable twisting or bending. The Shift Cable needs attachment to its support before checking if the transmission manual shaft lever positions in mechanical park. Then secure the cable onto the steering column bracket to ensure full tang seating. Connect the cable end to the steering column ball stud by using the retainer for attachment. The repair workflow requires workers to replace carpet and insulation followed by reinstallation of driver seat and instrument panel knee bolster. Follow this procedure to install the cable by attaching it to the bracket then connect the Shift Cable end to the transmission range selector lever ball stud while also affixing an equipped cable clip on the Transfer Case. Use the retainer and clips to attach the cable to the bracket after it has been placed on the floor panel reinforcement. Lower the vehicle afterwards. A final check of transmission shifts should be performed before adjusting the cable when all gear positions cannot be reached.

    Q:
How to replace the Shift Cable for the 2ML70 automatic transmission on GMC Yukon? Posted by Customer
    A:
The process of replacing the 2ml70 automatic transmission range selector lever cable begins by setting the Steering Column shift lever to park position then removing the instrument panel knee bolster followed by driver seat removal together with the body hinge pillar trim panel. The first step involves removing Steering Column insulation and carpet while detaching the cable retainer bracket which secures the cable to the Steering Column. Next, unfasten the cable end from the Steering Column ball stud until both cable tangs depressing points can be accessed to pull out the cable from the Steering Column bracket. Prevent unnecessary cable twisting or bending during this procedure. The next step requires uninstallation of the range selector cable both from the support and from the floor panel's cable grommet. The technician should lift the vehicle while removing clips from the floor panel reinforcement followed by heat shield bolts of the range selector lever cable and then the heat shield. First place the transmission manual shaft lever into mechanical park mode then disconnect the range selector lever cable from the range select lever and take out the cable retainer and the cable from the cable bracket. Top installation requires the transmission manual shaft lever to remain in mechanical park before you attach the range selector lever cable onto its cable bracket using the retainer. First attach the cable end to the range select lever followed by heat shield installation and tightening its bolts to 17 nm (13 lb ft). Reposition the cable floor panel clips after securing them to the reinforcement and lower the vehicle with the shift lever staying in park position. Attaching the cable grommet to the floor panel should follow the range selector cable installation to the support and Steering Column bracket where tangs should fulfill full engagement. Use the retainer to fasten the cable end onto the ball stud of the Steering Column. The last step involves testing the transmission for correct shift operation by adjusting the cable when gear positions cannot be fully achieved. Afterward, install the body hinge pillar trim panel together with driver seat and instrument panel knee bolster while repositioning carpet and insulation.
