The first step to repair the flex plate requires removal of both transmission and Flywheel. The procedure to install the Flywheel requires screwing the Flywheel bolts to 53 nm (39 ft. Lbs.) while continuing with another 25 degrees of tightening. Finally, reinstall the transmission.

The first step to replace an engine Flywheel includes automatic transaxle removal followed by clutch removal on vehicles equipped with manual transmissions. Mount the crankshaft balancer onto the holder seen as j 38122-a. The edge of an 18 mm socket might need its chamfer (bevel) removed to access the compact Flywheel bolts effectively. The procedure to replace the automatic transaxle Flywheel requires discarding its bolts and then removing it altogether. It is essential to remove the chamfer from the 18 mm socket if you are using it. Before removing the manual transaxle Flywheel follow the steps of removing all relevant manual transaxle Flywheel bolts and then remove the manual transaxle Flywheel itself. A nylon bristle brush should be used to remove thread adhesive buildup inside crankshaft holes. Install the manual transaxle Flywheel initially with its bolts afterward before applying torque at 53 n.m (39 lb ft) and additional 25-degree angle using the angle meter (J 45059). First install the automatic transaxle Flywheel when present after adding the new automatic transaxle Flywheel bolts that receive the identical tightening procedure. Rip off the crankshaft balancer holder (J 38122-A) then add the clutch hardware when using a manual transaxle system but connect the transaxle components with an automatic transmission.

Also tighten them to 53 Nm (39 ft. lbs.) plus an additional 25 degrees using the Angle Meter (J 45059).

First, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the transmission, ensuring to mark the relationship of the pressure plate assembly to the flywheel for proper balance during assembly.

Install the flywheel and tighten the flywheel bolts to 53 Nm (39 ft. lbs.) plus 25 degrees.

Begin by removing the transmission.

Finally, remove the EN-43653 tool and reinstall the transaxle.

Ensure to follow the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Place the manual transaxle flywheel, if applicable, and secure it with new bolts tightened to 53 Nm (39 lb ft) plus an additional 25 degrees using the J 45059 (Angle Meter).

Install the automatic transaxle flywheel and its new bolts, tightening to the same specifications as the manual transaxle.

Discard the automatic transaxle flywheel bolts and remove the flywheel.

Use the J 43653 (Flywheel Holding Tool) to secure the flywheel, ensuring that the chamfer from the edge of an 18 mm socket is removed for full engagement on the thin-headed flywheel bolts.

Loosen the 6 flywheel bolts, remove 5 of the 6 bolts, leaving one at the top of the crankshaft rotation.

First, remove the transaxle.

Install the flywheel bolts, ensuring to adhere to the Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Clean the thread adhesive from the flywheel bolt holes using a nylon bristle brush.

Next, take out the flywheel bolts, noting the position of the flywheel to the crankshaft, and then remove the flywheel.

Remove the transaxle if equipped with an automatic transaxle, or the clutch if equipped with a manual transaxle.

Begin by removing the automatic transmission.

Position the new flywheel to the crankshaft and install the new flywheel bolts until snug.
