    In order to carry out a brake caliper overhaul on the front (Single A Piston), one needs the following tools: Piston seal installer (J26267). Start by draining all brake fluid from the caliper, then insert a piece of wood or shop towels between the caliper and the Piston, and then on top of the brake caliper place a shop rag. Care is appropriate with eye protection, and only pump enough compressed air into the brake caliper to move the Piston. Start with removing the shop rag and taking off the wood or towels then remove the boot form the front brake caliper and be very cautious when you try to remove the front Brake Caliper Piston seal with a non-metallic tool. Then demount the bleeder valve from the brake caliper body, clean the bleeder valve, brake caliper body bore, and Brake Caliper Piston with denatured alcohol. In case of corrosion, replace the brake caliper housing and Piston. Clean the brake caliper bore for corrosion with crocus cloth and dry out the parts with non-lubricated, filtered compressed air. Replace the brake caliper or Piston if it does not have any of its components (such as the inside of the cylinder) either scored, corroded or with chrome plating damage or pitting. Lubricate all Piston, Piston seal, and brake caliper bore with new clean brake fluid ensuring, that Piston seal in not twisted in the groove for assembly. Put the Piston seal, boot and Piston into the caliper bore and install front caliper Piston boot using the Piston seal installer (J26267). Lastly, install the bleeder valve and tighten it to 12 nm (110 inch lbs).

    Before replacing the single piston front brake caliper start by checking the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid level. An appropriate tool should be used to lower the fluid level to the midway point when it exceeds this mark but no fluid needs to be removed when the level is at midpoint. Place the vehicle on a lift then take off the tire together with wheel assembly. A large c-clamp must compress the front caliper piston by fitting over the top of the caliper housing to push it into the brake caliper bore until it reaches full position before removing the c-clamp. The first step requires removal of the brake caliper hose bolt followed by removal of the two metal gaskets. Keep the components aside for disposal. The front brake hose needs a temporary plug to stop the fluid from leaking and contaminating the system before the brake caliper bolts and caliper can be taken out. Discard the o-rings while you remove the brake pads, brake caliper mounting bolt sleeves and rubber o-rings. To reuse brake caliper pin bolts along with retainers, begin by cleaning them with denatured alcohol as you dry them with non-lubricated compressed filter air. Apply delco silicone lube (GM P/N 18010909) to the sleeves while filling the bushings before you install rubber o-ring bushing and brake caliper mounting bolt sleeves. Put the brake pads inside the caliper after you add the caliper mounting bolts and tighten them to 51 nm (38 ft. Lbs.). Install the front brake hose fitting using 2 new gaskets with a brake hose fitting bolt tightened to 54 nm (40 ft. Lbs.). Use proper techniques to fill up the brake master cylinder then bleed the brake caliper while checking for any brake system leakage. To complete installation follow the steps of tire and wheel installation then lower the vehicle down.
