    Q:
How to ensure proper alignment of the Neutral Safety Switch on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
Toward replacing the park/neutral position switch start with accessing the parking brake while blocking wheels before moving the vehicle into neutral. First disconnect the throttle body air inlet duct followed by automatic transaxle range selector cable and then disconnect the wiring harness connectors. Start by removing the pnp switch mounting bolts and automatic transaxle range selector lever to extract the pnp switch. Use the j 41545 park/neutral switch alignment tool while installing to position the shift shaft in neutral before inserting the new pnp switch which requires this setting and should not receive any rotation. Position the flat surfaces of the shift shaft against the pnp switch's matching surfaces before you place the switch onto the mounting boss while using proper fasteners in their respective locations. Tighten the pnp switch mounting bolts to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)reinstall the automatic transaxle range selector lever followed by the wiring harness connectors and the automatic transaxle range selector cable. After installation, verify that the engine starts only in the park or neutral position; a check of the pnp switch and inspection of shifter and range selector lever needs to be done when the engine begins in any position other than park or neutral. Complete the installation by adding back the throttle body air inlet duct followed by wheel block removal and releasing the parking brake.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Buick Century? Posted by Customer
    A:
In order to replace the pnp switch, one should remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Next, with the help of a special tool, separate the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the wiring harness clip or strap and remove it from the at range selector lever and the at range selector cable bracket. Then, remove the at range selector cable from the console shift control or column shift control and pull it through the dash from the side of the engine compartment. For installation, plug the at range selector cable via the dash from the engine compartment side to attach it to the at range selector cable bracket, and at range selector lever. Cable a cable to a wiring harness clip or strap, and attach it to a console shift control or the column control. Finally re-install the throttle body air inlet duct.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Buick Rendezvous? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before you begin replacement of the pnp switch you should first engage the park brake and wheel blocking followed by switching the transmission to neutral position. First disconnect the throttle body air inlet duct then use a flat-bladed tool to free the automatic transaxle range selector cable from its lever connection. Unplug all electrical connectors before taking out the automatic transaxle range selector lever and pnp switch bolts then finally removing the pnp switch itself. Before fitting the new pnp switch you must place the transaxle in neutral since the switch arrives in the neutral configuration. Check the transmission position for neutral when the bolt holes fail to match. Line up the flat surfaces of the shift shaft with the pnp switch's flats before putting the switch on the transaxle then bolt the switch in place with j 41545 bolts tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). After installing the automatic transaxle range selector lever and electrical connectors put the automatic transaxle range selector cable into position. Testing should take place after confirming the engine only operates when the shift selector is in park or neutral position and then reinstall the throttle body air inlet duct while removing wheel blocks and releasing the park brake.

    Q:
How to replace the Neutral Safety Switch on Buick Regal? Posted by Customer
    A:
To replace pnp switch, first set the parking brake and block the wheels, then put the vehicle in neutral position. Remove the air cleaner intake duct, the automatic transaxle range selector cable from pnp switch and disconnect the pnp switch electrical connectors. Next take off the automatic transaxle range selector lever nut and the lever itself, then the bolts holding pnp switch and remove pnp switch. For installation purpose, a new pnp switch is pinned in the neutral position, make sure the shift shaft is in neutral position. If the bolt holes are not aligned, check the position of the shaft. Mount the switch to the pnp switch along with the shift shaft flats, and bolt it onto the mounting boss using screws that must be tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Reinstall the automatic transaxle range selector lever, along with nut, also tighten nut to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.)". Connect the pnp switch electrifiers and plug the automatic transaxle range selector cable to pnp switch. Check that the engine only starts into the park or neutral position after installation; if it does not start at any other position, adjust the pnp switch and scan the shifter and automatic transaxle range selector lever. Last, reinstall the air cleaner intake duct, remove blocks of the wheels, and release the parking brake.

    Q:
How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on Chevrolet Lumina? Posted by Customer
    A:
First service the transmission position switch/sensor by engaging the parking brake and wheel blockers and setting the vehicle at neutral. Start by removing three parts: the throttle body air inlet duct, automatic transaxle range selector cable, and wiring harness connectors. To access the pnp switch you need to remove several components including automatic transaxle range selector lever and pnp switch mounting bolts. Verify that the pnp switch gets installed when the shift shaft points toward neutral since the new pnp switch uses this position for assembly. If the bolt holes do not align, verify the shaft's position. Mount the pnp switch onto its base following the flat alignment across the shift gear with the pnp switch mounting bolts tightened to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Install both the automatic transaxle range selector lever and wiring harness connectors and the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Confirm engine start-up occurs exclusively during park or neutral position enactments after the installation. To start the engine only in park or neutral check the pnp switch for correct positioning because any other starting position could indicate a problem with the shifter or automatic transaxle range selector cable. To finish reinstall the throttle body air inlet duct before you take away the wheel blocks and switch off the parking brake.
