Throttle Body

In order to replace the Throttle Body assembly, the resonator assembly should be removed, the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge line should be removed from the Throttle Body and the Throttle Body almost should be disconnected as well as the Throttle Body electrical connector. Next, remove the Throttle Body assembly retaining bolts and remove the Throttle Body assembly including the gasket from the Intake Manifold ensuring that you clean off the surface of the gasket. For installation, simply bolt the Throttle Body assembly onto the Intake Manifold, with the gasket, applying sealer gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) to the throttle control module bolt threads before installing the Throttle Body assembly retaining bolts and tighten the Throttle Body assembly retaining bolts to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Then reconnect the Throttle Body electrical connector, reattach the evap canister purge line to the Throttle Body, as well as install the resonator assembly.

Start by removing the air cleaner outlet duct when you want to clean your throttle body. Make sure to turn off the ignition system before inserting fingers inside the throttle bore to stop the throttle blade's sudden movement that could lead to injuries. The throttle body bore requires no tool insertion because the process may damage the throttle valve plate. Check the inside of the throttle body bore and the throttle plate while also inspecting all surfaces by opening the throttle plate. You should avoid using cleaning solvents with Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) because these substances will harm parts of the fuel system. Use GM Top Engine Cleaner (P/N 1052626) or AC-Delco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner (P/N X66-P) or their equivalent product to clean the throttle body bore and throttle plate with a clean shop towel. After cleaning the air cleaner outlet duct install it back in its proper position.

First, make sure not to immerse any electronic throttle control parts in cleaners, or hold open the throttle plate with tools, because this could wreck the internal wedge. Start by taking out the air cleaner outlet duct, then take off the electrical connector from the engine wiring harness that cycles the electronic throttle control. Subsequently, loosen and take out the Throttle Body nuts (507) and bolts (538), then take out the Throttle Body (508) and get rid of the gasket (509). At installation, put the new Throttle Body Gasket on the Intake Manifold and line up the tab with the notch. Secure the Throttle Body (508), using the bolts (538) and nuts (507), then tighten them all to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Look to see that the seal on the engine wiring harness electrical connector for the electronic throttle control is undamaged and attach the electrical connector . Put the air cleaner outlet duct back in place and use a scan tool to check the throttle range. Make sure you can move the accelerator pedal easily from being fully closed to being fully open. Check that the engine power is normal, ignition is on and engine is not running before beginning the engine and looking for coolant leaks.

The electronic throttle control elements need gentle handling before replacement because dropping or immersing them in cleaning fluids can cause damage. First remove both the air cleaner outlet duct and engine sight shield from the vehicle. First disconnect the throttle actuator motor electrical connector while you remove the Throttle Body nuts (507) and Throttle Body bolts (538). Remove the Throttle Body (508) combined with its accompanying gasket (509) yet avoid gasket reuse since this part must be discarded. Insert a new Throttle Body Gasket (509) then install the Throttle Body (508). Fastener notice in hand, torque the Throttle Body nuts (507) to 10 n.m (89 lb in) while torque the Throttle Body bolts (538) to the same value. Secure the throttle actuator motor electrical connector after verifying proper installation of both the connector and its seal and checking for no damage. Replace then install the engine sight shield together with the air cleaner outlet duct. A scan tool should help verify throttle performance by opening and closing the throttle while testing both closed-throttle positions and wide open throttle conditions. Check that the vehicle exists out of reduced engine power mode and that the ignition is on and the engine is off before starting the engine and inspecting for coolant leaks.

Before installing a new Throttle Body you must detach the resonator assembly first. Begin by removing the Throttle Body electrical connector after you detach the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge line from the Throttle Body. Combining wrenches loosen the Throttle Body assembly retaining bolts so you can remove the Throttle Body assembly and matching gasket from the Intake Manifold surface before cleaning it. Set the Throttle Body assembly into the Intake Manifold position while using the gasket. Use gm p/n 12346004 sealer (Canadian P/N 10953480) on the throttle control module bolt threads and follow fastener caution procedures. After securing the Throttle Body assembly retaining bolts apply 10 nm (89 lb in) of torque to them. Reinstallation of the Throttle Body electrical connector should be followed by attaching the evap canister purge line to the Throttle Body and reinstalling the resonator assembly.

The first step when replacing the Throttle Body assembly demands delicate handling of electronic throttle control components while avoiding cleaning solvents and keeping tools away from the throttle plate to avoid wedge damage. Start by disconnecting the electronic throttle control from its engine wiring harness electrical connector followed by removing the air cleaner outlet duct. Start the disassembly by removing Throttle Body nuts 507 then bolts 538 before extracting Throttle Body 508 and replacing Throttle Body Gasket 509. A new Throttle Body Gasket needs to be placed onto the Intake Manifold where its tab should match up with the notch. Fasten the Throttle Body (508) to its mounting position while securing its bolts (538) and nuts (507) to a torque of 10 n.m (89 lb in). Check the engine wiring harness electrical connector seal of the electronic throttle control before connecting the harness to the control and reinstalling the air cleaner outlet duct. A scan tool should be used to verify proper throttle-operation between closed throttle and wide open throttle (WOT). Confirm that the accelerator pedal works without restriction during this range. Start the engine along with inspecting for coolant leaks only after stepping through these operational requirements: verify the vehicle is not in reduced engine power mode, maintain ignition in on position, and ensure engine stays off.

Install the throttle body assembly retaining bolts and tighten them to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

The accelerator control cable, cruise control cable, and the vacuum hose.

Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector from the throttle body.

Any solvent containing Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) as it may damage fuel system components.

Install the throttle body assembly retaining bolts and tighten them to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
