- Q: What tools are required to service and repair the brake line on 2000 Cadillac DeVille?A: The brake hose/line service requires an ISO Flaring Kit which carries the model number J 29803-A. install double-walled steel brake brake pipe hoses to stop brake system problems and place the new pipes through their original fastener locations just like the old ones. Start by getting the right size of pipe and steel fitting nuts which match the outside diameter of the pipe. Trim the pipe into equal-shaped pieces and true length with hacksaw using the old brake pipe as a guide plus 0.125 inch extra length for each ISO end. Fit the connections ahead of time by shaving both ends of the pipe correctly with a de-burning tool. Before starting the flaring process clean all lubricant from both the brake pipe and ISO Flaring Kit (J 29803-A). Mount the kit securely in a vise for safe operation. Pick the matching collet and forming mandrel for your pipe size. Put the mandrel into the ISO Flaring Kit and keep it steady at position. Begin screwing the forcing tool until it hits the mandrel base and then reverse the tool for one complete rotation. Position the clamping nut over the brake pipe then place the prepared pipe into the collet. Keep 19 mm of pipe visible from the opening and make sure it touches the mandrel surface. Securely tighten the clamping nut first to stop the pipe from pushing out. Only wrench tighten the forcing screw after it bottoms out and before over-tightening leads to an oversized flare. Take out the clamping nut from its position, remove the collet parts, and measure the flare size across its flat end to stay between 6.92 mm and 7.28 mm (0.272 inch and 0.286 inch). The process reaches completion and the flare can be utilized. Use a tube bender to create the new pipe while keeping it at least 0.75 inches (19 mm) from moving pieces and 0.50 inches (13 mm) from vibrating components. Reduce the clearance to 0.25 inches (7 mm) when the shielded lines are fastened directly to equipment.
