How to replace the rear door hinge on 2004 GMC Savana 3500?

The first step requires removing the vehicle door according to left or right rear door replacement sequences before replacing the rear door hinges. Begin by scraping away the sealer around the hinge before drawing exact marks of the current hinges onto both body pillars and doors at the mig weld centers on the hinge base. Start by drilling a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole entirely through each spot weld until it reaches the opposite side at the previously marked center punch points. After that, drill a 13 mm (1/2 in) hole which will pass through the hinge base and body pillar or door while using the already drilled smaller hole as the pilot. Remove the remainder of welding through chiselling methods and then separate the hinge from its body pillar or door before removing the hinges. Hinge pillar or door inner holes must be deburred to allow proper hinge and backing plate installation while flatness tests must be performed on the hinge seating area. Paint both inside and outside surfaces of the hinge pillar at the mounting area followed by applying medium-bodied sealer onto the surface of each hinge. Insert the bolt-on service replacement hinges into the scribe marks preceding installation into body pillar or door with bolts and tapping plate supplied through service replacement kit. Begin by fastening the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in) initial torque before installing the door on the body with necessary alignment. Check the door closure by sight before tightening the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) when the lock engages with the striker correctly. The last steps involve applying sealer to the hinges followed by painting the assembled hinge unit before reinstalling the door to the automobile.
