Cadillac CTS Cam Gear Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Cam Gear on Bank 2 (Left Side) Exhaust on Cadillac CTS?
A: The process starts with removing the lower Intake Manifold from lp1 and ly7 engines or the Intake Manifold from llt engines to replace bank 2 (Left Side) exhaust camshaft position actuator. Begin by removing the left camshaft cover then proceed to take away the exhaust and intake Camshaft Position Sensors at the left side. Take both left intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoids out of their positions. Use clockwise turns only on the balancer bolt to shift the crankshaft until you reach the neutral spot of the camshafts before noting cam positions and actuator markings for reassembly. Apply marks on the Timing Chain links using a paint stick and then place the marks against the adjacent teeth of the camshaft position actuators. Use the en-48313 Timing Chain retention tool (EN-48313) by inserting its feet towards the engine front with legs partially expanded. Use hand force on the en-48313 tool and then an open-end wrench to add space in the chain between the actuators. Put on safety equipment and dismantle the left exhaust camshaft actuator with its bolt to position it for extraction. Match the exhaust camshaft actuator marks for timing and install it manually at first before taking out the en-48313 tool. Turn the exhaust camshaft actuator bolt to 58 n.m with a 43-pound foot torque setting. Reassemble the left intake and exhaust camshaft position sensors, solenoids, left camshaft cover and either lower Intake Manifold for lp1 and ly7 engines or new Intake Manifold for llt engines.
