How to replace the rear differential cover and gasket on Cadillac Escalade?

The first step to replace rear axle housing cover and gasket begins with supporting and lifting the vehicle. The procedure requires removing the Drain Plug of 9.5 inch ld and 9.5 inch hd axles or gently loosening the bolts of 8.6 inch axles before draining the rear axle. You must first take out the bolts from the rear axle cover followed by removing the axle housing cover together with its gasket . The axle housing gasket can be reused after installation unless it shows signs of damage. Start by installing the gasket before placing on the axle housing cover . Fitting the mounting bolts requires a torque of 40 n.m (30 lb ft) to tighten. To install the Drain Plug of the 9.5 inch axle confidently tighten it to 33 n.m (24 lb in). Add the fluid into the rear axle until it reaches the level 0-13 mm (0-0.50 inch) below the fill plug opening. Use appropriate fluid to fill the lubricant until it reaches the bottom of the fill plug opening when the fluid level appears low. Finally, lower the vehicle.

How to replace the LH Differential Cover and seal on Cadillac XLR?

To replace the Differential carrier cover and seal on the left-hand side, raise the vehicle and adequately support it. Dismount the lh rear tire and wheel assembly 02100-020-lh wheel drive shaft and the lh Muffler assembly 02020-020-lh tire wheel wells muffle duct. Drain the fluid from the Differential, then raise the Differential, then remove the left Differential mount. Clean around it of any dirt or debris and then take out the two bolts that hold the Differential cover in place and push out the dowel pin. Carefully remove the Differential cover and make sure the magnet at the bottom of the Differential case is not thrown away. Remove the o-ring seal as well as the axle seal from the Differential side cover. For installation, clean the o-ring sealing surface on the Differential cover and the Differential housing, and fix a new o-ring seal on the Differential cover. Mount the Differential cover onto the Differential, put the dowel pin and the two bolts for Differential cover retaining at work, tightening them 28 n.m (20 lb ft). Tight up the bolt containing the left Differential mount to 50 n.m (37 lb ft). Since the axle seal was successfully installed using a j 46405 output shaft seal installer, install the axle seal into the Differential cover. Add the appropriate fluids into the Differential up to the right level, then reinstall the lh Muffler assembly, the lh wheel drive shaft, and the lh rear tire and wheel assembly before lowering the vehicle.
