Removing the
Spark Plugs and
Rocker Arms is the first step to service the Valve Stem Oil Seal and change the Valve Stem Oil Seal, as well as the valve spring. After that, install the Spark Plug port adapter (J22794) into the cylinder head and blast compressed air into the Spark Plug port to keep the valves from closing. You may use the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) or the valve spring compressor (J 38606) for compressing the valve spring. Take measurements of the valve locks, valve cap, and valve spring, and then take off the Valve Stem Oil Seal. When putting in the new Valve Stem Oil Seal, keep a plastic sleeve on the guide boss and simply press the seal onto it. Assemble the three pieces: spring seat, valve spring, and valve cap, and use either the valve spring compressor (J 38606) or the valve spring compressor (J 5892-D) to compress the valve spring again. Place the valve locks into their place and use grease if you need to, then remove your grip on the valve spring to confirm they are seated correctly. When you are done with all other steps, put the rocker arms and spark plugs back.
