Begin your Steering Wheel replacement by desactivating all restraint systems. To begin the process remove the inflator module and horn plunger from the Steering Column by pressing in until you reach the stop point then rotate the 90 degrees. Unplug the Steering Wheel electrical connection then remove the Steering Wheel retaining nut which connects to the Steering Wheel shaft. Steering Wheel removal requires j1859-a (J1859-A) puller alongside j-36541-a (J-36541-A) adapter or j42578 (J42578) puller legs to eliminate the wheel without ending the Steering Column shaft with hammering which would compromise the column's structural health. Guide the Steering Wheel onto its shaft then secure it with the retaining nut before tightening the nut to 41 nm (30 ft. Lbs.). Connection of the Steering Wheel electrical connector must precede horn plunger and inflator module installation and a final step of switching on restraint systems.

The first step in replacing the Steering Wheel is to disable the sir system. Remove the inflator module and the horn switch after that. This leads you to make an alignment mark to remember how the Steering Wheel relates to the Steering Shaft. Remove the Steering Wheel with the j 1859-a Steering Wheel puller and one of the two mentioned split apart devices, namely j 36541-a or j 42578. Next, line up the marks made before, take the Steering Wheel and place it onto the Steering Shaft, and tighten the Steering Wheel nut to 40 nm (29 ft. Lbs.). Afterward, install the horn switch, the inflator module, and electrify the sir system.

Steering Wheel replacement starts by disabling the supplemental inflatable restraint system and taking out the inflator module and horn switch. Create an alignment reference between the Steering Wheel and Steering Shaft and then loosen the Steering Wheel nut. Misture the wood part with wax and grease remover before applying a protective mask to the non-wood regions. Sanding through the clear coat must never be allowed. Lastly, replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.

Make an alignment mark.

Remove the steering wheel nut.

Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system and remove the inflator module and horn switch.

First, disable the SIR system.

Reconnect the steering wheel electrical connector, install the horn plunger, and then the inflator module.

Set the front wheels in the straight-ahead position and disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.

Remove the retaining nut securing the steering wheel.

Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system and remove the inflator module.

Remove the retaining nut.

Use the Steering Wheel Puller (J1859-A).

Begin sanding with 400 grit sandpaper.

Make an alignment mark.

Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system and remove the inflator module and horn switch.
