Oil Tube

Before starting service or repair of the engine oil dip stick and dip stick tube you must switch off the ignition. Drain the oil level indicator from its tube before removing the oil level indicator tube bolt. Extract the oil level indicator tube up through the Exhaust Manifold during the next stage of operation. The technician should replace the old seal only when changing the oil level indicator tube seal. The installation procedure includes putting the oil level indicator together with tube in their original position before lowering the vehicle.

The process starts with turning off the ignition followed by removing the oil level indicator from the tube before you can replace the oil level indicator tube. Before moving forward detach the oil level indicator tube bolt so you can pull the oil level indicator tube through the Exhaust Manifold. Replacements of only the oil level indicator tube seal require discarding the previous sealing element. The installation process requires inserting a new seal onto the oil level indicator tube before installing the tube. The oil level indicator tube bolt needs to be installed while tightening it to a torque of 10 nm (89 lb in). Reposition the oil level indicator into its placement on the oil level indicator tube.

The first step before replacing the oil level indicator and tube is to turn off the ignition. Start by removing both the oil level indicator from its tube before you extract the bolt holding the tube along with pulling the complete tube upwards through the Exhaust Manifold. The procedure calls for discarding the seal only when replacing the oil level indicator tube seal alone. The next step is to place a new seal on the oil level indicator tube before tube reinstallation. The installation of the oil level indicator tube bolt needs a 10 n.m (89 lb in) torque setting. Reinstall the oil level indicator at the end of the oil level indicator tube.

The first step to replace the oil level indicator and tube is to disable the ignition. First remove the oil level indicator from the tube and separate the bolt holding the tube bolt before extracting the tube through the Exhaust Manifold. Replacement of only the oil level indicator tube seal requires discarding the existing seal. Reinstall the tube ensuring installation of a new seal on the oil level indicator tube follows. Security measures demand the installation of the oil level indicator tube bolt followed by a 89 lb in torque adjustment. Place the oil level indicator last into its place within the oil level indicator tube.

Remove the oil level indicator from the oil level indicator tube.

Place the oil level indicator and tube back in position, and finally lower the vehicle.

Take out the oil level indicator tube bolt.

Apply penetrating oil to the bottom of the tube and move it back and forth to loosen it.

Install the tube into the engine block.

Turn the ignition OFF and remove the oil level indicator from the oil level indicator tube.

Tighten the oil level indicator tube bolt to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).

Remove the knock sensor and the heat shield clip from the oil level indicator tube, then lower the vehicle.

Take out the oil level indicator tube bolt and raise the vehicle.

Reinstall the oil level indicator and the front compartment sight shield as necessary.

Remove the front compartment sight shield as necessary.

Replace the oil level indicator tube O-ring.

Place the oil level indicator and tube back in position, ensuring the secondary heat shield is correctly installed as noted during removal.

Discard the old seal.

Clean the oil level indicator tube and apply GM sealant around it 12.7 mm (0.50 in) below the bead, using the correct part number for the sealant.

Raise the vehicle again to reconnect the knock sensor electrical connector lead and reinstall the engine wiring harness clip.

Take out the tube bolt before removing the oil level indicator tube itself.

Take out the stud to allow lateral movement, apply penetrating oil to the bottom of the tube, and move it back and forth to loosen it.
