How to Replace a Rear Door Hinge on 2005 GMC Savana 2500?

Initial steps to replace the rear door hinge start with taking out the door. Start by removing the sealer from the hinge area before making markings that show the current hinge locations on the body pillar and door. Use a drill to make 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot holes that penetrate all spot welds at each marked center point on the hinge base. Make a 13 mm (1/2 in) hole through both the hinge base along with the body pillar or door by using a 3 mm (1/8 in) pilot hole. The remaining welds should be cut apart by a chisel to detach the hinge from its position on the body pillar or door before removing the hinges. The inside holes of the hinge pillar and door require deburring before hinge installation to achieve proper backing plate fitment. Additionally, the hinge seating area should undergo flatness inspections. Coat both surfaces of the hinge pillar and door in the hinge mounting area and apply a medium-bodied sealer on the matching surface of the hinge base. Install the bolt-on service replacement hinges within the scribe marks using the bolts followed by the tapping plate which comes in the service replacement kit. Prepare the bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in) preliminary torque value before attaching the door to the body frame while making necessary adjustments for alignment. Complete the door closure only after verifying the lock which should hit the striker correctly and tightening the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). Complete the job by sealing the hinges and painting the assembly and then reinstalling the door to its place on the vehicle.
