2008 Chevrolet HHR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair Brake Lines Using the J 45405 Pipe Flaring Tool Kit on 2008 Chevrolet HHR?
A: The J 45405 tool kit (J 45405) lets you fix brake pipes but needs double-walled steel brake pipe to prevent brake failure. Look at where the brake pipe needs repairs before unhooking it from any retainers when needed. Choose an unobstructed area away from bends and mounting points when cutting brake pipe. Then take the accurate measurement for the replacement section by accounting for the necessary flare length according to pipe diameter. Chop the brake pipe straight as shown by the J 45405 (J 45405) tool piping cutter before removing the sectioned pipe. Use brake pipe and tube nut sizes that fit and remove nylon coating from the flare end with J 45405's coating stripper. Also healthy the pipe ends with the included J 45405 de-burring tool. Put in the tube nuts, clean both the brake pipe and J 45405 hardware. Then get ready to flare the pipe end by taking out the die clamping screw and placing the die halves. Put the tube end into each die section and screw the clamp tight before applying the forming rod to produce the flare result. Check the flare for right dimensions before using the brake pipe bending tool to adjust the new pipe as needed. Connect the pipe system with proper joints at the vehicle then mount it to retainers while bleeding brake fluid through the hydraulic system. Check the brake pipe flares for leaks when the engine runs during brake application.
