- Q: How to replace the Coolant Pipe for the Radiator Surge Tank Outlet (LY7) (3.6L) on 2009 Cadillac STS?A: It requires draining out the cooling system in order to change the Radiator Surge Tank Outlet Hose/Pipe (LY7) (3.6L). Use J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers to take the outlet hose off the surge tank, then loosen the bolt on the bracket to support surge tank outlet hose to the engine. Again, use the J 38185 to detach the surge tank outlet hose from the thermostat assembly and remove it off the engine. For installation, place the surge tank outlet hose/pipe to the engine and join it to the thermostat assembly with the help of J38185. Mount the bolt onto the bracket which holds the surge tank outlet pipe in position relative to the engine, and tighten it to 9 Nm (80 lb in). Lastly, join the outlet hose to the surge tank with J 38185 and fill up the system in the cooling area.
