To start replacing the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) in a 4l60-e/4l65-e automatic transmission you need to lift the vehicle and set a drain pan under the transmission. Detach the electrical wire from the speed sensor and unscrew the bolt. Twist and pull the Vehicle Speed Sensor out of its case while also taking away the o-ring seal. Before installing the Vehicle Speed Sensor put a fresh o-ring on the end and coat it with fresh transmission fluid prior to inserting it into the transmission case. Fit the bolt in place and turn it to 11 nm (97 inch lbs.), all while following the service precautions fastener notice. Connect the Vehicle Speed Sensor electrical connector back to its place and drain fluid from the transmission unit. After lowering the vehicle position, add dexron iii transmission fluid until it reaches the correct levels.
