Secure the arm and swivel nut of the j 44228 (J 44228) onto the valve stud but restrict the tightening to just enough for valve lock extraction. A magnet takes out the valve locks while you loosen the swivel nut before swinging the arm of j 44228 (J 44228) away from the valve spring retainer to take out both the valve spring retainer and spring. Twist and pull the j38820 tool to take out the valve stem seal and toss the worn part. Apply engine oil to both parts of the valve stem and new seal's inner circumference before installing a seal protector then inserting the j 38820 tool to place the new seal. After installing the valve spring retainer and spring position the j 44228 arm over the parts. Tighten its swivel nut a little to give room for valve lock placement. Place the valve locks into position through the j 43059 tool then take off the j 44228 swivel nut and arm. Start the Valve Stem Oil Seal and valve spring replacement project using these tools: valve stem seal remover and installer (J 38820), camshaft sprocket holding tool (J 44222), valve spring compressor (J-44228-A), and crankshaft balancer remover (J 44226). Arrange valve train parts before taking them apart and place them back in their correct positions when finished. Set air pressure to 50 psi at the air compressor port before using it to pump up the cylinder to avoid turning the crankshaft. Lift the vehicle and take out the torque converter access plug at its base. Reposition the vehicle on the ground and insert the j 44226-3a 15 mm holding bar onto the torque converter bolt to lock the crankshaft. Install the j 44222 onto the cylinder head before any work on the timing chain components to keep them protected. Adjust both horizontal bolts in Camshaft sprockets to hold tension and steer the sprockets and timing chain off the camshafts. Set the Camshaft caps on a rack when you uninstall their bolts to reinstall them correctly later. After taking off the Camshaft caps and camshafts you should push air into the cylinder through an appropriate connector. Installation of j-44228-a enables compression of valve springs giving access to remove valve keys which you can then take off j-44228-a. Apply clean engine oil to every Camshaft surface and lubricate the valve stems with the same oil before placing the camshafts back in their designated positions. Place the Camshaft caps on their direct journals and tighten cap bolts to 12 n.m (106 lb in). Transfer the Camshaft sprockets back to their camshafts before taking out the j 44222. Reinstall the intake Camshaft sprocket components by tightening the bolt to 20 n.m in two steps. Also reinstall the new exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt to specified torque. Start by tightening the exhaust Camshaft actuator bolt to 25 n.m (18 lb ft) during the first stage and perform the final stage by spinning the j 36660-a 135 more degrees. Afterward, fit the spark plugs and Camshaft cover before lifting the vehicle for further work. Install the access plug into the torque converter hole while also taking out the j 44226-3a wrench. Lower the vehicle afterward.

Set the j 22794 into the Spark Plug hole and secure an Air Hose while using compressed air to hold the valves stationary. Use tool (J 38606) to tension valve springs before taking out valve stem keys (225) and letting spring tension off slowly. Degas the engine by first taking out the valve spring compressor (J 38606), valve spring cap (224), valve spring (223), valve stem oil seal (222), and valve (228). Brush oils through the valve spring seat region of the Cylinder Head before applying clean engine oil on both the valve guide and Valve Stem Oil Seal. Put the valves (228) into the right port before setting the Valve Stem Oil Seal (222), valve spring (223), and valve spring cap (224). Use the (J 38606) tool to compress the valve spring before inserting the keys into their grooves on the valve stem and keeping them in place with grease. Lift valve spring pressure while monitoring key position. Then take out the tool and tap the valve stem tip with a soft-headed hammer to better place keys if needed. Apply the (J 22794) into the Spark Plug port and turn the key by hand until the plug fires. Then tighten the plug to 15 nm (11 lb ft). Push the spark plugs directly into their connections at the Ignition Coil and Spark Plug. Check wire installation by pressing each boot from side to side then replace any loose boots. Finally, install the Rocker Arm.
